What Does a Scale Measure?

What Does a Scale Measure?

For many of us, we dread the weekly weigh in. We obsess over each pound, worry about what we did or didn’t eat. But what are we really measuring? Have you ever wondered what we are really weighing as we step on the scale? We at The Fit Devil Co. have – and we’ve compiled a list of things scales do NOT measure.

  1. Scales do not measure ourself-worth or self-esteem. Scales do not measure our productivity.
  2. Scales do not measure love, nor do they tell us the size of our heart.
  3. Scales do not measure the concerns that weigh upon our minds.
  4. Scales do not measure happiness.
  5. Scales do not show how much we know or how much more we can learn.
  6. Scales do not count our responsibilities.
  7. Scales do not show the number of people who count on us each and every day. Scales do not show whether our whole self is smaller or greater than the sum of our individual parts.
  8. Scales do not measure the burdens we lift off others and place on ourselves.

So, let’s just put it in perspective. A scale simply shows how much our physical body is currently weighing, including all our bones, muscles, ligaments, vital organs, skin, hair, and body fat. A scale does measure this…but, it does not measure us.
